Craig Lidster’s Alfa Kellenic will bow out for the season after triumphing in a remarkable six successive races this year.

The filly began the winning streak on the all-weather at Newcastle in January and switched to turf in the summer, landing a string of increasingly competitive handicaps over six and seven furlongs.

The unbeaten spell peaked with victory in the Ayr Silver Cup in September, where she pocketed over £30,000 with a neat success under William Pyle.

At Newmarket earlier in the month she stepped up to Listed level to contest the Boadicea Stakes when drawn in stall one, but her luck seemed to have run out as she missed the break and then ran on under Ryan Moore to finish fifth.

She was not disgraced, however, when beaten two and a quarter lengths, and will now enjoy a winter off before continuing to fly the flag for the yard next year.

“She’s come out of the race really well, she’s gone to Elwick Stud on a holiday now and we’ll wait for next year with her,” Lidster said.

“When the horse next door’s blind was taken off, it frightened her a little bit and she just missed the break and it went a bit Pete Tong from there on in.

“She still ran really well, she missed the kick by about two lengths and then she was beaten about the same distance.

“We were drawn badly on bad ground, we needed to be up the other rail really but things didn’t go our way on the day.

“Credit where credit is due, she deserves a break and they’ll look after her at Elwick Stud.

“She’s been a great horse for us, for all her connections and the staff, who have done an excellent job with her.

“We’ve had a great year and we can’t wait to bring her back nice and healthy, ready for next year’s campaign.”
