The John Joe Walsh yard is a good outfit to bring off a punt and the newcomer, Silver Friend proved well up to the task under Ambrose McCurtin in the concluding Cork Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons (Pro/Am) Flat Race.
Backed from 10/1 this morning into 7/2, the grey led over two furlongs out and he was soon ridden clear. He galloped on in the style of a useful horse to beat the favourite, Crannaghmore Mist by three and a half lengths.
Walsh commented: "He is a nice horse and his dam (Presuming) is a full-sister to Presenting. We might go for a winners bumper with him."
Another one for money in this event was Rock The Bock (25/1 in the morning into 6/1) who led, but his effort petered out when the winner took over and he eventually finished fourth.
