Kevin Sexton brought Canaille (7/1) with a sustained run from over a furlong out to take the one mile nursery handicap at Dundalk for Jessica Harrington.
The son of Giant’s Causeway was blinkered for the first time and his 17-year-old jockey guided him home by a length-and-a-quarter from 11/4 favourite Mount Meru from the Ger Lyons yard. Kevin Prendergast’s Jimtown took third at 11/1 half-a-length back.
Kevin Sexton is from Nurney in Co Kildare and is apprenticed to Jessica Harrington. He has been with her for a year. He claims ten pounds and tonight was his second winner, but first for his boss. His previous winner came in September on board Solaras Exhibition (14/1) at Fairyhouse for trainer Seamus Fahey.
Sexton has his first ride over hurdles at Punchestown tomorrow on Starling Lady for Jessica Harrington in the two mile handicap hurdle at 3.10pm. Habesh was backed in the morning from 33-1 to 14/1 (returned 16/1). Mick Halford’s colt, owned by the Aga Khan, was held up in rear before making headway two furlongs out to finish fifth.
