Sense Of Romance strikes for Smyth & Rutledge Having just failed to get up over seven furlongs here last Friday, Sense Of Romance (7/1) made no mistake over the extra furlong of the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Apprentice Handicap. The daughter of Dutch Art was ridden close to the pace by Siobhan Rutledge and went past the front-running 4/1 favourite Malaysian a furlong and a half out. She was ridden clear to beat the staying-on Dreams Delivered (11/2) by three and a quarter lengths with the market leader finishing a further two and a quarter lengths back in third. Making the breakthrough on her tenth career start, the winner had been placed a couple of times at Kempton last year when in the care of James Tate. Winning trainer Lee Smyth said: "She’s a nice filly and full credit to Freddy Tylicki who sourced her in England and does the buying for us. He works on a tight budget and is doing a great job. “The owners Eamon and John Donnelly are massive supporters of the yard. Eamon resides in New York most of the time and his brother John is a Tyrone man. They are big Tyrone fans and that’s reflected in their colours. “The step up to a mile probably helped her and it’s great to get her nose in front. We’ll try her here again and then freshen her up for a turf campaign. “The girl that leads her up, Megan Camblin, is new in the game and is looking for an apprenticeship. She minds her at home and is over the moon as well.” Quotes from Alan Magee
