Triple Derby-winning jockey Walter Swinburn could be back racing at the end of the month, it emerged today.
Swinburn has not been in action on a racecourse since winning the Group One Heinz 57 Phoenix Stakes at Leopardstown in August 1998. He was then due to ride at York's Ebor meeting but was forced on to the sidelines due to increasing weight problems.
However, Swinburn, 38, has been riding out on the Newmarket gallops for local trainer Jeremy Noseda in recent weeks and has re-applied to the Jockey Club for his licence.
He is due to meet the Jockey Club's medical adviser Dr Michael Turner and the five members of the licensing committee later this month and if all goes well could be back at Doncaster's Lincoln meeting which gets under way on March 23rd.
In his five-month riding spell in 1998 Swinburn partnered 51 winners from 283 rides.
