Sugarfoot came through his gallop at Beverley racecourse today with flying colours.
Nigel Tinkler's stable star is being aimed at the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot next Tuesday and as part of his preparation worked over five furlongs on the Westwood in company with the mare High Carry.
High Carry, ridden by the trainer's wife Kim, set a good pace but Sugarfoot was always going well and eased about a length clear at the end of the piece of work.
"Perfect. The horse is top of the pops," commented Tinkler, who confirmed Pat Eddery would be in the saddle at Ascot.
"They were winging the first four furlongs. If you put him in a 0-70 five-furlong handicap with 10st he'd win easy. He's got so much class.
"He's got quite content. You have to bring him somewhere like this - it just puts him on his mettle. He's a six-year-old entire and thinks it's not too long before he has his pipe and slippers. It gives him a bit of motivation to see all the people."
Mrs Tinkler added: "Delighted with that. High Carry is a five-furlong horse. She's not a good racehorse but she's a bloody good workhorse.
"She gave him a good lead - he's travelled well the whole way."
Sugarfoot finished a creditable three-and-a-half-length fifth behind Aljabr in the Group One Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury last time and will renew rivalry with the front-running Godolphin grey on Tuesday.
"We'll get a good lead off Aljabr again but whether we'll be able to lie up with him I don't know," remarked Tinkler, "but Ascot should suit him better than Newbury did."
