STEVENS GLAD TO BE BACK IN THE SADDLE

Gary Stevens is 'very excited' by his return from retirement at Santa Anita in California tomorrow.

And the American, who rode 45 winners in Britain during a stint as Sir Michael Stoute`s stable jockey in 1999, admitted he already has an eye on riding at the Breeders` Cup meeting at Gulfstream Park next month.

Chronic knee problems caused him to quit the saddle last December and forced him to scrap an intended comeback this summer.

But he has four rides booked tomorrow and he told the Santa Anita website: 'I`m very excited. I feel great and I`m looking forward to it.

'To be away for 10 months and have the opportunities that I`m getting right now feels pretty good. We`ll just see what happens over the next month or so. I`ve got a couple of horses that are pointing towards the Breeders` Cup.'

Stevens` last ride was on Boxing Day last year, with the most recent of his 4,000-plus career winners coming a month previously.

The three-time Kentucky Derby winner`s four mounts tomorrow are Muy Rapido, Champ`s Jewel, Camelback and Bully`s North.
