Gary Stevens rode his first stakes winner since returning to the saddle on October 4th on War Chant in the Grade Two Oak Tree Breeders` Cup Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday.
War Chant, unraced since finishing unplaced in the Kentucky Derby in May, will be aimed at the Breeders` Cup Mile according to trainer Neil Drysdale.
Stevens, the Hall of Fame rider, announced his retirement from the saddle last December owing to a chronic knee condition.
However, the rider`s condition has improved markedly since and he gained his first comeback win on Brilliance at Santa Anita three days after his return.
Stevens, with over 4,500 career wins to his credit, began his riding career in 1979.
