Sendawar, the joint top-rated miler in the world last year, heads the 14 possible contenders for the Group One Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury a week on Saturday.
This year's renewal of the Newbury mile contest is again supported by Prince Khaled Abdulla's Juddmonte Farms, which first sponsored the race in 1984.
Sendawar earned a rating of 127 in the 1999 International Classifications by winning three Group One events, including the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and the Poule d'Essai des Poulains French 2000 Guineas at Longchamp.
The Aga Khan's star worked well at Chantilly on Monday afternoon and is due to make his seasonal debut in either the Lockinge or the Prix d'Ispahan at Longchamp the following day.
Almushtarak, who finished third in the race 12 months ago, and a close fifth the previous year, is set to try and make it third time lucky.
Trainer Kamil Mahdi feels that the seven-year-old could have done even better than third on his last start in Sandown's Group Two KLM UK Mile.
"He should have won last time out at Sandown," reported Mahdi.
"Unfortunately the jockey chose to go the wrong way, but he has come out of that race well. As long as everything goes all right, we intend to run him at Newbury and he ran very well in the race last year."
Sugarfoot, who won the Group Three Leicestershire Stakes at Doncaster last time out, will bid for the biggest success of his career in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes.
"The intention is to run," said trainer Nigel Tinkler. "He would only not take part if the ground was firm, he prefers good going. He won well last time and couldn't have come out of the race any better.
"We're very happy with him but whether he is good enough to win a Group One race I don't know - we shall find out."
Indian Lodge, winner of the Group Two KLM UK Mile at Sandown last time out, could also be in the line-up at Newbury although his trainer Amanda Perrett is keeping a close eye on the weather.
"We are planning to run Indian Lodge that weekend but we are waiting on the weather to see if he will go to Newbury or to France the following day," said the Pulborough handler, who added that a decision on the participation of Tillerman, her other entry, would be made nearer the race.
Godolphin will be bidding to land the spoils for the third successive year. The last two runnings have been won by two front-running second strings of the Dubai-based operation - Cape Cross in 1998 and Fly To The Stars in 1999. The latter is among five Godolphin entries this year.
The other Godolphin entries are Aljabr, winner of the Sussex Stakes last year, Muhtathir, Slip Stream, and Worldly Manner.
Ireland could be represented by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Saffron Walden, winner of last year's Irish 2000 Guineas.
