STAG SIXTH

Running Stag's successful American trip ended on a low note in New York last night.

The British raider finished sixth of seven in the Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont Park.

Philip Mitchell's top-weight, winner of an allowance race at Belmont and a Grade Two event at Suffolk Downs in Boston recently, was in the first two for much of the nine-furlong race but was run out of it close home.

Victory went to the 1999 Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid, who seemed revitalised by blinkers and strode to an emphatic seven-and-a-quarter-length win.

Last year's Dubai World Cup winner Almutawakel finished fourth.
