Review SMULLEN, WELD TEAM UP FOR 78/1 TREBLE - FAIRYHOUSE 19TH AUG

Pat Smullen struck the front in the Flat jockeys championship when teaming up with Dermot Weld for a near 78/1 treble at a poorly attended Fairyhouse on Saturday.

The highlight for the former dual champion apprentice was the Listed race win of Social Harmony in the Belgrave Stakes. The six-year-old was quickened clear over a furlong out to beat the staying on One Won One by three and a half lengths. 'The MacDonagh Boland Stakes at the Curragh next month is a likely target, while the Ayr Gold Cup is also a possibility,' said Weld afterwards.

Smullen was seen to good effect aboard Cutting The Edge in the Skreen Maiden. The Moyglare Stud Farm's filly was driven to the front approaching the furlong pole to beat Mythical Nature by a length and a half. He edged one ahead of Mick Kinane (51 to 50) in the title race half-an-hour later after giving Lammas a strong ride to deny Tarwila by three quarters of a length in the Glascairn Handicap. 'He loves the ground and a strong pace, and Pat gave him a lovely ride,' said the master of Rosewell House.

Michael Hussey recorded his 14th winner of the season when Where Shebehan took the two-year-old auction race for the Ben Lawlor stable.

There was a controversial outcome to the bumper after runaway winner Show Me The Castle weighed in one and half pounds light, and was subsequently disqualified in favour of Kramer. The latter provided father and son, Will and Sam Farrell, with their first success.
