SLATTERY BREAKS LEG AT WORCESTER

Jockey Vince Slattery is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after breaking his left leg in a fall at Worcester today.

Slattery was on board Conora in the Wyvern FM Novices' Chase when his mount blundered at the eighth fence, unseating the rider from the saddle.

He was stretchered into the ambulance and taken to nearby Worcester Royal Infirmiary where X-rays confirmed the extent of his injuries.

Wife Karen said: 'They are keeping him in overnight and he said they would operate either tonight or tomorrow morning.

'I believe the leg is broken in two places, just above the ankle.

'He's never broken a leg before - in fact, he's been very lucky up to now.'

Slattery, who rides both on the Flat and over jumps, was set to have four rides at Newton Abbot tomorrow.
