SHIVA WITHDRAWN

Shiva was a late withdrawal from the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot today because of the state of the ground.

Her trainer Henry Cecil warned yesterday that the filly would not run unless there was sufficient rain to ease the going.

Three and a half millimetres of rain did fall over night, slightly easing conditions to an official "good to firm, good in places", but it was not enough for Cecil to allow Shiva to take her chance.

Cecil had planned to run Shiva, impressive winner of the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown on her latest start, against Dubai Millennium in Wednesday's Prince of Wales's Stakes but took her out at the final declaration stage.

Ten horses remain in today's Group Two test over a mile and a half but there could still be another late withdrawal as John Gosden has yet to decide whether to allow Commander Collins to take his chance.

Commander Collins was later taken out by the Manton trainer, leaving a field of nine.
