SHERWOOD AIMING HIGH WITH STABLE STARS

Oliver Sherwood today boldly set his sights on two of jumps racing`s top prizes for stable stars Cenkos and Lord of the River.

With the National Hunt campaign soon set to step up a gear, Sherwood has mapped out ambitious programmes for the exciting chasers.

High-flying Cenkos is the big hope to restore fortunes for the Rhonehurst yard which had a largely disappointing time last season.

The Queen Mother Champion Chase is the principal target for Cenkos after he won four consecutive races last season, including the Martell Chase at Aintree.

'Cenkos had a quiet start last season and it took him time to race at his best, so I`m looking for a small handicap first time.

'Then it`ll probably be the Tingle Creek at Sandown, the Castleford Chase at Wetherby and, all being well, the Queen Mother,' said Sherwood.

'But we`ve got to remember that, at six, he`s still a young horse and he`s got plenty of time.'

Lord of the River, set to return after suffering a hairline fracture of the pastern that kept him off for a year, will have his campaign geared towards the Gold Cup.

'He`s potentially top class - and I have really big hopes for him,' said Sherwood, whose horses are being ridden this season by new number one stable jockey Jimmy McCarthy.

'He`s beaten Marlborough a couple of times, so that says something. The Hennessy is the first target as long as the going is good or softer. If he`s going well we`ll be steering a course for the Gold Cup.'

The trainer also has confidence in Hulysse Royal and his Cheltenham target is likely to be either the Coral Cup or the Stayers` Hurdle.
