SHAGREEN FACING TOUGHER TASK

Shagreen, who looked an exciting recruit to the chasing game when making a successful debut over fences at Newcastle in December, will step up to Grade Two class when he returns to action later this month.

Winner of a bumper and over hurdles for John Dunlop before being sold for 62,000 guineas at the Doncaster September Sales, he recouped a little of that outlay when winning the Renate Services Novices' Chase at the Gosforth Park track.

With Richard Johnson on board, he beat Ackzo by a comfortable three lengths, having jumped well, with subsequent winner Ballyvaughn three-quarters-of-a-length away in third.

Trainer Howard Johnson said: "I was pleased with him that day and the plan now is to go for either the Dipper Novices' Chase at Newcastle or the Towton Novices' Chase at Wetherby."
