Mirko Marcialis has become the second Italian jockey to be killed this year as a result of a race fall.
The 19-year-old suffered fatal injuries when he fell from Sir Robin in the Premio Wendecar at the northern Italian track of Varese on Sunday, police said.
He was rushed to hospital after being trampled and was pronounced dead on arrival.
The jockey was attached to the Bellinzago stable of Luciano d'Auria. He rode 79 winners in his career.
The race was won by the dead rider's 16-year-old cousin, Andrea Marcialis, on Rainbow Park.
