SEATTLE SLEW RETURNS HOME

American Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew returned to his home at Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Kentucky on Monday after a stay at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital.

Seattle Slew underwent surgery last week to fuse the joint between two vertebrae in his neck.

"The post-surgical X-rays taken were everything we could possibly hope for and his recuperation has been text book and uneventful. In short, he's been a good patient," said Clay in a memo to shareholders.

Seattle Slew, a 26-year-old son of Bold Reasoning, had been suffering from neurological problems prior to and during the start of the breeding season, which were believed to be related to spinal cord compression caused by arthritic changes in the vertebrae in his neck.

Seattle Slew's recovery is expected to consist of 30 days of stall rest and another 30 days of hand-walking.

Three Chimneys has not speculated on a possible return to active breeding for Seattle Slew, who was found to have significant fertility problems in mid-March.

Seattle Slew has sired 92 stakes winners during his career, including Triple Crown candidate Surfside, and six champions.
