SANDOWN JUMPS TO MILLION MARK

Prize money for Sandown Park`s forthcoming jumps season, which gets under way on Saturday week, is set to reach the £1million mark for the first time.

This amount reflects a 10 per cent increase on last year.

The Esher track will stage a meeting every month from November to April.

Sandown`s Finale Day on April 28 - the last day of the National Hunt season - will feature the 45th running of the Whitbread Gold Cup.

The Allied Irish Bank Handicap Chase is the highlight on the track`s opening card.

Steve Brice, general manager at Sandown, said: 'Sandown is committed to staging the highest quality jump racing which provides a great spectacle for all racegoers and therefore we are delighted to be able to increase prize money for the season to £1m.

'This support is due to our ever-growing list of sponsors and we are delighted to welcome Allied Irish Bank to Sandown Park for their first taste of race sponsorship.'
