SANDOWN IN JEOPARDY

Today's English meeting at Sandown is in danger from the weather again.

Further rain has fallen at the Esher course, where Monday's card narrowly beat the threat of waterlogging, and an inspection will be held at 10.00am to determine whether this evening's meeting can take place.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper said: "We battled through to race yesterday but that has done some damage and there are some problem areas, such as the mile-and-a-quarter start.

"We had around 3mm of rain overnight and the forecast for today is a bit muddled with one or two heavy showers possible.

"We want to work on the track for a couple of hours and we will have a look to see how we stand at 10.00am."

Following the inspection racing was given the go-ahead - provided the track avoids further heavy rain.

Cooper said: "We will go ahead provided we avoid the 20 per cent chance of a heavy shower for mid to late this afternoon.

"If it stays dry we have no worries. We would be able to race this afternoon but we do have this threat hanging over us."
