Ross Geraghty scoops big US pot

Black Jack Blues ridden by Ross Geraghty landed America’s richest jumps race, the Grade 1 Grand National Hurdle over 2m 5f, at Far Hills in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon.

The Irish-bred son of Definite Article was formerly under the care of Rebecca Curtis and won eight times for her including winning on his last start in the UK at Ffos Las in August.

The 8yo bay gelding also ran at the Galway this year, pulling up after making a bad mistake at the sixth fence in a Novice Chase won by Down In Neworleans on the Thursday of the Festival.

Purchased by his current owner Irvin Naylor he won on his first start in the US on October 1st with Geraghty also in the saddle.

Now trained by Joseph Delozier, Black Jack Blues made all and came home a convincing seven length winner of the race worth $250,000.

Former Paul Nicholls inmate Organisateur finished second.

Irish raider Dirar, trained by Gordon Elliott, finished along way behind in fifth under Joey Elliott.
