In response to the publication of the Mazars' Report last week into financial irregularities at the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB) the body representing over 250 Restricted Trainers has sent letters to Government officials calling for strong action on the integrity and oversight of the IHRB.

The Restricted Trainers Association is calling on the Minister for Food, Agriculture and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue, to initiate a full and independent review of the IHRB’s governance and regulatory practices, one that extends beyond the Mazars report to address what the Association sees as systemic issues within the Board’s structure.

The Association's Chair, John Fitzgerald, said: "With Ireland’s election only weeks away, the Minister for Agriculture has a unique opportunity to demonstrate leadership and take immediate steps to protect the integrity of Irish horse racing. Our community deserves a regulatory framework that prioritises transparency and public accountability, free from political influence or election posturing."

The Dáil is currently in recess as politicians gear up for the General Election in just over two weeks.
