ROTHWELL ENJOYS FINEST HOUR

Experimental gave 22-year-old trainer Philip Rothwell his biggest success when winning the #50,000 SERE Handicap Hurdle at Down Royal today.

Experimental who was backed down to 8-1 at the off, moved into contention two hurdles from home and sprinted clear to win by four lengths from Masalarian.

Tryphaena finished another four lengths adrift in third.

It was also a biggest success for jockey Joe Casey, who was aboard the winner when he was beaten on his last visit to Down Royal.

Rothwell said: 'I gave Joe the wrong instructions that day and I take full blame for what happened.

'Today`s race was the one we wanted to win and Experimental will now have a break before going for what was called the Ladbroke at Leopardstown in January, the Pierse Hurdle.'
