Review ROSCOMMON 5TH JUL

The 27,000 Connacht Gold Handicap at Roscommon last night proved an easy pay-day for Cache Creek as Pat Hughes' filly totally outclassed her rivals.

Jamie Spencer oozed confidence as he tracked the leaders into the straight and he didn't need to move a muscle as his mount hit the lead inside the final furlong. The pair exerted minimum effort as they scored by a length from High Reef.

Hughes could run the winner in a group race at Leopardstown next week but revealed that the filly 'takes time to get over her races' and the daughter of Marju, who is in foal to Barathea, may also contest the McDonogh Handicap.

Galway beckons for Gimli's Axe following a winning debut over hurdles in the County Roscommon Vintners Association Maiden Hurdle.

The Shernazar gelding belied his lack of experience over jumps by making all for a convincing four-length success over Detonante. He will now run in one of the novice events at the festival.

Paul Carberry gave Lance a trademark ride, in the Bank Of Ireland Novice Hurdle, as he sat motionless on the 4 to 11 favourite to lead between the last two flights for an easy three-and-a-half length victory over long-time leader Sir Onside.

Woody's Glen (5/1f) gave Carberry a double when taking the Flemings Super Valu Handicap Hurdle by two-and-a-half lengths from It Was'nt Me.

La Maitresse showed no ill effects after running through the rail at the Curragh last time and stayed on well to open her account in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden.
