Reiziger, co-owned by actress Catherine Zeta Jones`s father David found took the leading role in the Grade Two Capel Cure Sharp Novices` Hurdle in the hands of Richard Johnson at Cheltenham today.
Swansea-based Jones and his partner Brian Thomas were understandably overjoyed as Johnson drove the Philip Hobbs-trained four-year-old to victory number five of the season when passing the post three lengths clear of Palouse.
'Catherine will be on the phone at some stage to find out how the horse got on,' revealed Jones.
'He`s our first ever horse and he won on the first day of the new season on his first outing for us.'
Jones and Thomas, along with a number of friends from Swansea at travelling to New York next weekend where Zeta Jones is due to tie the knot with Hollywood actor Michael Douglas.
'There`s around 120 of us going over to New York and you can bet there was plenty of cheering when this horse won as we`ve had a decent bet and we told the others to as well,' added Jones.
Reiziger was bought for the partnership by former jockey turned blood-stock agent Graham Bradley and he was on hand to see the victory and said afterwards: 'That`s absolutely brilliant for David and Brian.
'They saw me on TV after Seebald won at Taunton last season and when I said that I had four other horses for sale they came and saw the horse, liked him and bought him and now he`s won five of his seven races.'
Hobbs had earlier initiated a double after the Carl Llewellyn partnered Wave Rock proved too tough for Glamanglitz in the Mitsibushi Shogun Trophy Handicap Chase. The five-year-old won by five lengths.
The victory proved to be Hobbs` 50th of the season and he said: 'This horse is actually lucky to be alive as he was stretched out here after falling at the last in the Grand Annual Chase at the Festival last March but he bounced back to win at Punchestown so it didn`t do him too much harm.'
Kim Bailey ended a 47-day barren spell after Supreme Charm galloped on strongly to defy Galapiat Du Mesnil by half a dozen lengths for Norman Williamson in the Sporting Index Cross Country Steeplechase.
'I really needed a change of luck and this was a nice prize to win so it`s worked out well,' beamed Bailey. 'He`ll come back here for another cross country race at the New Year meeting.'
Tom Scudamore was banned for four days (November 20-23) after the stewards found that his mount Fanfaron had taken the wrong course on jumping the fourth fence and the jockey carried on in the race.
