REID LENDS GODOLPHIN A HAND

John Reid has got the Group One call again from Godolphin, it emerged today.

He has been booked to ride ante-post favourite Lend A Hand in Thursday's Darley July Cup at Newmarket, according to the Dubai organisation's website, with Richard Hills on Bertolini.

The Ulsterman has come in for a number of spare rides from Godolphin in the past, winning the St Leger in the royal blue colours on Nedawi, its Irish equivalent on Kayf Tara, the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes on Swain and the Coral-Eclipse Stakes on Halling.

But after Frankie Dettori was injured in a plane crash the organisation initially looked to America for replacements, with the likes of Jerry Bailey, Chris McCarron and John Velazquez employed at Epsom and Royal Ascot.

Lend A Hand, third under Bailey in the Cork And Orrery Stakes at Royal Ascot, is William Hill's 4-1 joint favourite for the July Cup _ which Reid won on Royal Academy for Vincent O'Brien in 1990.

Bertolini, third in the King's Stand Stakes at the Royal meeting when ridden by Bailey, is quoted at 5-1.

Final declarations are made for the race today.
