BeGambleaware.org The feature event on today’s card is the Champion Hurdle at 3.30pm in which Honeysuckle bids to win the race for the second consecutive year and take her unbeaten record to a staggering 15 straight victories. The wonder mare is odds-on with BoyleSports to land today’s ten runner Grade One affair but their horse racing ambassador Robbie Power is not convinced she will have things all her own way this afternoon. Power who partners the Gordon Elliott trained Teehupoo in the Champion Hurdle said: "Teahupoo has to improve again on what he did in Gowran, we just don't know how good he is - he only does what he has to do at home which is often the sign of a good horse. I'm looking forward to riding him. I think he has a big chance. I think it‘s the stiffest task that Honeysuckle has faced in the Champion Hurdle so with the likes of Appreciate It and Teahupoo to take her on it’s probably going to be a good test for her, but saying that she is still going to be very hard to beat and we are giving her seven pounds, so she is going to be a tough nut to crack." Teehupoo is unexposed and has been improving with each run and it would be no surprise if Power’s mount got into the frame at odds of 10/1 with BoyleSports. Gordon Elliott, who trains Teehupoo, has a host of other live chances on the opening day with Mighty Potter in the aforementioned Supreme Novices’ Hurdle, Riviere D’etel in the Arkle Challenge Trophy, Death Duty in the Ultima Handicap Chase, Queen’s Brook in the Mares’ Hurdle, The Tide Turns in Boodles Juvenile Handicap Hurdle and possibly his best chance of the day comes in the concluding National Hunt Chase. The Elliott trained Galvin won this race twelve months ago and he saddles both the favourite Run Wild Fred and Braeside in today’s renewal. Run Wild Fred, the mount of top Amateur Jamie Codd, has the perfect profile for this race having finished second in both last season’s Thyestes Chase and Irish Grand National before running out an easy winner of the competitive Troytown Chase at Navan in November. Willie Mullins supplies the main danger to Run Wild Fred in the shape of Stattler. The seven-year-old was a beaten favourite at the Festival last season when fourth to Vanillier in the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle but has looked a natural over fences in two outings this season. He has won both starts over fences and if his relative inexperience over the larger obstacles doesn’t hold him back he should make a race of it with Run Wild Fred.
