Take a chance with Fruit Punch to record the first of what could be many career successes in the European Breeders Fund Maiden Stakes at Haydock Park tomorrow.
The daughter of top miler Barathea cost connections IR120,000 guineas as a yearling and judged on her promising debut at Newmarket at the end of last month there is a fair chance she could be worth the outlay.
The Tim Easterby-trained filly lined up for 11-runner seven-furlong event and ran much better than her final fifth placing would suggest.
Held up in the rear by Michael Roberts, Fruit Punch was beginning to make headway when she was knocked out of her stride three furlongs out. She stayed on well after being switched but the damage had been done and she was beaten around five lengths by the winner, the well-regarded Summer Symphony.
That experience will have taught Fruit Punch a lot and given normal improvement she looks worth an interest to land the nap tomorrow on the way to better things.
Earlier on the card King Of Peru looks too good to miss in the Rossett Claiming Stakes.
Formerly with Nick Littmoden, the seven-year-old appears rejuvenated since joining David Nicholls` yard and has won both starts since, at Catterick and Kempton.
Clearly in top form King Of Peru can win again.
Mastermind can upset some better-fancied rivals in the Richard Bolton Insurance Group Conditions Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Newmarket.
With the likes of Bien Entendu and Pegnitz set to run, Paul Cole`s three-year-old will not have matters all his own way. However, as he has not won so far this season Mastermind is set to receive weight from all but one of his six opponents.
Mastermind finished unplaced in the Sagitta 2000 Guineas on his reappearance before showing useful form when fourth, beaten three lengths, behind Hataab in a Listed race at York in May.
He then failed to stay the 12 furlongs of the French Derby on heavy ground in early June, fading to finish 12th of 14 after racing prominently.
Rested since then Mastermind will find the drop back in trip and better going in his favour tomorrow.
The afternoon`s Showcase handicap, the Tote Bookmakers Stakes, can go to Kissing Time, another of Cole`s charges.
A winner at Bath last term, Kissing Time ran her best race to date this time at Windsor on her latest start when the daughter of Lugana Beach can be counted an unlucky loser.
In a 13-runner handicap Kissing Time was at the back of the field until making headway below the distance. She was twice denied a clear run before keeping on to finish a two-length fifth behind Ravine.
Kissing Time can make the most of her favoured draw in stall 10 (of 12) to keep out of trouble and gain compensation tomorrow.
