Brendan Powell has lost his race against time to partner the Peter Beaumont-trained Young Kenny in the Singer & Friedlander National Trial at Uttoxeter on Saturday.
Powell has not ridden since taking a heavy fall at Doncaster last Friday when he cracked a couple of ribs but he expected to back in action at Towcester today.
He said this morning: "I will not be riding at the weekend, the ribs are not a problem, it is a trapped nerve in my shoulder and it is something or nothing really.
"In fact maybe I could have been back on Saturday but I told Young Kenny's owner Mr Read and Peter last night I would not be riding - they need time to find another jockey and it would not be fair to hang on and to take any chances.
"He is too nice a horse and both the owner and Peter have been very good to me and said that if I missed Saturday I would still ride him next time."
Powell went on: "I would never forgive myself if I was not 100 per cent and the horse got beat so I will just have to accept things as they are and hopefully be back on Monday.
"I will now be able to have five more days treatment so I should be all right and Bob Buckler has runners at Fontwell on Monday so I will aim for then."
