PIPE STAYER THE NEW FAVOURITE FOR MELBOURNE

Far Cry has been promoted to 12-1 favourite for the Foster`s Melbourne Cup by local bookmaker Michael Eskander.

Eskander eased the previous market leader for the two-mile contest at Flemington on November 7th, Showella, two points to 14-1 after the New Zealand mare finished 10th in the Grade One Underwood Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Martin Pipe-trained Far Cry, second in the Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup on his last two starts, was subsequently clipped two points from 14-1 to 12-1.

Sharing joint-second favouritism with Showella are Sky Heights, James Fanshawe`s Irish St Leger winner Arctic Owl and France`s Mont Rocher.
