Ex-British pair Blueprint and Chester House were out of luck in the Hollywood Gold Cup in California last night.
They finished sixth and seventh respectively behind Early Pioneer, who took the nine-runner Grade One event by a length from favourite General Challenge.
The winner had been beaten in Grade Two contests on his two previous starts but his jockey Victor Espinoza had been full of confidence and dyed his hair gold before last night's race.
Meanwhile Classic winners Red Bullet and Commendable were put firmly in their places on the other side of the country.
The pair, successful in the Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes respectively, filled the last two places in a four-runner field for the Grade Two Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park, which was won by Albert the Great.
