Fusaichi Pegasus will make his eagerly-awaited return to action in the Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park today.
The Kentucky Derby winner has not raced since his second to Red Bullet in the Preakness Stakes in May after which he suffered a foot injury.
But the three-year-old, who is warming up for the Breeders` Cup Classic at Churchill Downs in November, has been given a clean bill of health by trainer Neil Drysdale.
He said: 'The horse has done very well. He has developed as a three-year-old should and has benefited from his rest.
'This is a very strong field. He`s probably a work or two shy, but running in this race puts us ahead if the weather interrupts his training.'
Fusaichi Pegasus, due to carry top weight of 8st 12lb, gives from between 4lb and 12lb to his six rivals in the one-mile contest.
The most dangerous of these may prove to be the Travers Stakes second Albert The Great and the progressive Del Mar Breeders` Cup Handicap winner El Corredor.
