Fusaichi Pegasus made an impressive return in the Grade Two Jerome Handicap at Belmont Park on Saturday.
The Kentucky Derby winner, unraced since his Preakness Stakes defeat in May, gave weight all round in the one-mile Grade Two contest and readily held El Corredor, who was receiving 7lb, by three-quarters of a length.
A delighted trainer, Neil Drysdale, hinted that the son of Mr Prospector could continue his Breeders` Cup Classic build-up in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
He said: 'It`s far too early to discuss where he will go next, but the Jockey Club Gold Cup (October 14th) is certainly one of our options.
'It was important to get this race today. He`s much more mature than he was this spring. I think he handled everything very well.'
