PEARCE TO DENY DRIVING DEATH CHARGE

Trainer Jeff Pearce today appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after his head girl was killed in a road accident.

The 52-year-old, of Old Station Road in Newmarket, indicated that he would deny the allegation when he appeared before magistrates in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

Pearce, who was granted unconditional bail, was involved in an accident at Swaffham Bulbeck near Newmarket in May in which stable girl Catherine Marr, 30, died.

He was driving a Mercedes which was involved in a collision with an Audi.

Miss Marr, who worked for Pearce but originally came from Newcastle upon Tyne, was a passenger in the Mercedes.

She and Pearce had been returning from racing in Newbury, when the accident happened.

The case was adjourned until August 22nd.
