Punters with money to spare following the Royal meeting had their fingers burnt when 6-4 favourite Rosse could only finish fifth behind Papabile in the London Clubs Fern Hill Rated Stakes at today's Ascot Heath meeting.
Rosse had been backed down from 5-2 to 5-4 with Ladbrokes this morning but flattered to deceive as William Jarvis's filly, a 5-1 chance, was driven home by in-form Pat Eddery to score by a head from Mystify with Coco a length and half further back in third.
The winning trainer described Papabile as a 'lovely filly'.
'She's a full sister to Grand Lodge and she is very similar, very tough with all of his will to win,' he added.
'We will probably aim her for a Group Three race - probably abroad.' -PA
