Last season's Champion Conditional Jockey Kevin Sexton made it four wins from his last eight rides when Old Theare Royal bridged a gap of three years since his own last win, in the Phelim Byrne Seasuir At Wexford Racecourse Handicap Hurdle at Wexford today, winning for trainer Lorcan Donnelly.
Sexton was steering his ninth winner of the new season and afterwards Wicklow based Donnelly, stated “we went out in front there today as there was no pace and we didn’t want to make it a sprint.
“He was a bit unlucky the last day at Sligo when he pecked on landing at the last but he made up for it today and is at Galway in a handicap hurdle on Wednesday. I think he'll get three miles.”
Donnelly, who was registering his first winner since Old Theare Royal's last win in April 2011, stated “I’m only back training after three years and the reason I stopped was because I couldn’t get owners.
“I only took my license back out at the end of May and he's my first winner back. Hopefully now owners will start taking note and send on a few horses!”
