Third in a Group 3 at Cork on her previous start, Thunder Roll was sent off 4/6 for the Sheehy Motors CUPRA Maiden but the odds-on favourite was turned over by Dermot Weld's newcomer Sumiha

The daughter of Sea The Stars, who holds a Group 3 entry herself on Champion Stakes day at Leopardstown next month, was a little slowly away under Chris Hayes before being settled in mid-division and made good headway from early in the straight.

Having been switched to the outer two furlongs out, the 13/2 chance soon threw down her challenge and led inside the final furlong to foil the market leader by half-a-length.

“She did it nicely, she had been working nicely and I thought Chris gave her a peach of a ride,” said winning trainer Dermot Weld.

“She settled nicely, made steady progress and was produced in the last furlong.

“She's a lovely filly, she's just been a late maturing filly. She's typical of a lovely Aga Khan family, they take a little bit of time and now she's coming forward nicely.

“I don't have any huge plans, just one day at a time.”
