Former top jumps jockey Jamie Osborne saddled his first winner as a trainer when Cape Coast landed the 'Come Racing' Selling Stakes at Nottingham today.
In front on the far side the three-year-old was strongly challenged by Schatzi throughout the final quarter of a mile of the six-furlong contest but Ray Cochrane would not be denied and the pair gained the verdict by a head.
Osborne, who partnered over 800 winners in his riding days, retired as a jockey last year and set up as a trainer at Kingsdown Stables in Upper Lambourn.
"Well that was a relief," commented Osborne, who has 60 horses in his care. "It's very nice to get the first one out of the way.
"We haven't run many so far and we haven't run any two-year-olds yet. They were pretty forward up to about Cheltenham and then one by one they went a bit under the weather with me.
"I could have a runner on Thursday and Saturday and two or three on Sunday including my first two-year-old at Hamilton.
"Now that we have broken the ice let's hope we can have a few more."
Osborne retained today's winner at the subsequent auction for 5,800 guineas.
