OGDEN PURCHASE READY FOR BRITISH DEBUT

Robert Ogden's recent acquisition Silver Top is likely to have his British debut at either Aintree or Ayr next month.

He bought the French Grade One hurdle winner for #125,000 at the Jean-Paul Senechal dispersal sale last month and sent him to Venetia Williams.

And his racing manager Barry Simpson said today: "Following a winter break Silver Top is progressing nicely at Venetia Williams' yard and the likelihood is he will have his first outing for us at Aintree's Grand National meeting or Ayr a week later."

The leading owner, who celebrated his first Cheltenham Festival winner with Marlborough last week, is to be awarded an honorary degree by the University of Leeds.

Ogden, who has over 40 horses in training, is the founder and sole owner of the Ogden Group of companies. He is also a major benefactor of a number of charities.

Two years ago Ogden set up a scholarship scheme to help support students from disadvantaged backgrounds in south Yorkshire.

Among those also receiving degrees at the same ceremony will be Lord Bragg.
