O'Brien hoping weight will stabilise

Joseph O’Brien is hopeful of maintaining his weight at a similar level to last year when he enjoyed top level success in both the Irish 2000 Guineas and at the Breeders Cup.

“Obviously it’s going to be tough but my aim is to do 9st again this year. I won’t kill myself but I’ll do my best and take it as it comes after that,” said the Ballydoyle-based teenager.

Standing close to 6ft makes it difficult to keep his weight in check but a good lifestyle and a disciplined attitude has proved a good asset.

“I eat good food, exercise and keep fit. I run quite a bit and keep myself busy working hard. After that there is not much you can do,” added the 18-year-old.

O’Brien has plenty to look forward to this year, notably 2000 Guineas and Derby favourite Camelot trained by his father Aidan.
