New Group Ones for Older Mares.

Fillies and mares received a major boost yesterday with the announcement of two new Group 1 races in Ireland next year.

The Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown have both been elevated to the top grade, while there are further upgrades to other Group 2 and 3 races.

Curragh manager Paul Hensey welcomed the news saying, ‘The promotion of the Pretty Polly Stakes is particularly exciting as it will become the first Group 1 opportunity for older fillies in Europe.’
