Mark Johnston today admitted defeat in his race against time to get Fruits Of Love ready for Sunday`s Canadian International at Woodbine.
His five-year-old suffered an attack of the metabolic disorder set-fast last month and will now wait for a possible trip to either the Breeders` Cup Turf or Japan Cup in November.
The trainer said: 'He`s not going to travel over.
'It`s heartbreaking really, I`ve just had a look at the race and we couldn`t have a better opportunity for the horse.
'His blood seems to be OK but frankly he has just lost too much condition in the treatment of this set-fast.
'He just doesn`t look well enough to travel.
'He`s got a chance to race again this year but obviously the races get much tougher.'
Fruits Of Love finished second in the Canadian International last year and Johnston feels he would have had every chance of going one better.
'We actually feel that as he gets older it`s nice to see him run with just a little give in the ground which he probably would have got in Canada,' he added.
'And he`s beaten all the main horses in the race before so it couldn`t be worse really.
'He`ll now aim for the Breeders` Cup or the Japan Cup but obviously they are very different races.'
Johnston, looking for a first Group or Grade One victory since 1997, will be represented by Murghem in the 12-furlong event.
