NIVEN HOPES FOR WEDNESDAY RETURN

Peter Niven is hoping to return to race-riding as early as Wednesday after riding out for trainer Mary Reveley this morning.

Niven has been out of the saddle since breaking a bone in his neck at Sedgefield in early December.

The jockey said today: "I rode out this morning, everything's fine and I might be riding on Wednesday.

"If I can get some rides I'll be riding at Doncaster."

The news means that Niven could be reunited with Reveley's Brother Of Iris in Saturday's Racing Post Chase at Kempton.

"We'll see how it goes _ it's at the front of my mind _ but we'll take it a step at a time," Niven said.

"Mary's going to leave it to me but I'll have to be happy with myself because obviously it's a big race."

Niven is just 26 winners short of becoming only the sixth National Hunt jockey to reach 1,000 winners in Britain.
