Persistent rain today put paid to the scheduled English jumps meeting at Newton Abbot.
This afternoon`s fixture was called off due to waterlogging after a 7.30am inspection.
'It is bad news,' said clerk of the course Rodger Farrant. 'We have had 20mm of rain in the past 24 hours, which is nearly an inch.
'The rain was forecast to move away up country but it didn`t - I think most of it fell on Newton Abbot!
'We have given it every chance but we have had persistent rain, the course is waterlogged and we had no option but to abandon.'
Today`s other scheduled jumps meting is at Hereford, while Lingfield stages an all-weather Flat fixture.
