NEWBURY ABANDONED

Newbury's meeting this afternoon has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

Nearly two-fifths of an inch of rain since 2am had changed the going to heavy at the Berkshire course and forced officials to call an inspection at 9am.

However continued rain gave Clerk of the Course Mark Kershaw no option but to call the meeting off before the scheduled inspection time.

Kershaw said: 'We've abandoned the meeting due to waterlogging.'

The Newbury card was set to feature the Group Three Lane's End Greenham Stakes, a leading trial for the Sagitta 2000 Guineas.
