Members of the press today got their first look at the new Limerick Racecourse, which is near completion.
The new course is being built at Greenmount in Patrickswell and will replace the old track in Limerick City. It is located south of the City and will benefit from the new Limerick by-pass.
The work on the new course has taken nearly two years to complete and includes a multi-storey stand as well as grass and all-weather gallops and ancillary facilities.
The Directors hope to have the course rated as a Category One track.
Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture and Food, said: 'Great credit is due to the Directors of Limerick Race Company for their initiative and considerable investment in the new track.'
'It will provide a great boost to the Industry in Munster and throughout the country'
Mark McMahon, Chairman of Limerick Racecourse, added: 'We appreciate the support of the Government and the IHA and all those who have given us their time and experience.'
