The Time Electric bubble was burst in no uncertain terms in the Athlumney
(Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Navan.
Tom Mullins' six-year-old was 10-11 to enhance his burgeoning reputation,
but having travelled well enough on the heels of the leaders, he found
disappointingly little for pressure and trailed home well behind the
principals. He was found to be lame by the vet post race.
At the business end, Limestone Cowboy and Picture This (10-1) fought out a
thriller, with the Michael Cullen-trained latter prevailing in a photo
finish.
Hairy Molly (6-4 favourite) shed his fencing duck in the Trim Beginners
Chase, albeit in fortunate circumstances.
The 2006 Champion Bumper winner appeared booked for second when Classic Vic
shot clear to a seemingly unassailable lead heading down to the last.
He jumped the fence well enough, but crumpled on landing, leaving Hairy
Molly to fend off the staying-on Offally by half a length.
Jessica Harrington and Robbie Power gained some compensation for Classic
Vic's tumble when Magnesium ran out a wide-margin winner of the Navan
Handicap Chase.
Power established daylight between himself and his rivals when kicking the
13-2 chance into a clear lead and the pair never looked like being caught,
eventually crossing the line with 14 lengths to spare over Fivestar Alstars.
The richest race on the card, the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders
Fund Novice Chase, went the way of Dante Hall.
A faller when staying on in the Punchestown Grand National Trial last time,
Tommy Stack's 9-2 chance travelled well throughout the three-mile contest in
the hands of Mark Walsh.
He pressed Judge Deed three from home, asserted before the next, and strode
on well to score by a length and a quarter.
Noel Meade continued his recent resurgence when Miss Fancy Pants (100-30)
beat Keep It Cool by three and a half lengths under Paul Carberry in the
Kilberry Maiden Hurdle, while Give It Time (7-2) initiated a double for
Jessica Harrington in the N.I. Childrens Hospice Maiden Hurdle.
