Review NAVAN 1ST APR

Anna Pavlova stamped her class on Ennistown Stud EBF Salsabil Stakes with an impressive victory at Navan on Sunday.

Richard Fahey's English raider proved much too strong for her rivals in the listed event as she recorded a five-length victory.

Paul Hanagan settled the 5/4f behind the leaders before cruising into contention early in the straight. She went on over a furlong out and pulled clear of her field in great style.

'She got very boiled over today and I was worried as it's not like her. We missed the boat and she had no canter today so maybe she was a bit fresh,' said Fahey.

'It was a good race for her, probably the best all season, as she loves soft ground. She'll have some massive targets but everything depends on the ground.

'She'll be in the Coronation Stakes but the ground is unlikely to be right and the Irish St Leger is the long-term target. She could have a summer break.'

Acapulco looked a classy colt when making a highly impressive winning debut in the concluding www.navanracecourse.ie Race.

Seamus Hefferan settled his mount behind Harper Valley in the early stages before cruising into the lead a furlong-and-a-half out. The Galileo colt quickened in some style in the final furlong to score by nine-lengths.

'We liked him at home and he done what we expected him to,' said Heffernan afterwards. 'He has a bit of class - maybe a lot of class.'

Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning teamed up to record a double courtesy of Leeside Champ and Ezima.

Leeside Champ was produced to lead inside the final furlong of the Labrokes.com Maiden and held on by half a length in a bunch finish.

Ezima produced a good front-running performance to land the Day Membership Fillies Maiden.

In A Rush threw down a strong challenge inside the final furlong and briefly led but was outbattled by her more experienced rival close home as she scored by half a length.

Lafuar showed a great attitude on his debut when out-battling 4/7f Scupio in the opening juvenile maiden.

The Francis Crowley-trained son of Langfuhr was produced to lead, by Pat Smullen, over a furlong out but was soon headed by the favourite. He kept to his task well, however, to get back in front close home for a narrow victory.

'He's a grand horse. He wants better ground - we thought the ground would be too soft and five furlongs too short,' said Crowley. 'He should improve a lot from the run as he wouldn't have been totally wound up today.'

Eamon Tyrrell struck with his first runner of the year when Controvento claimed the five furlong handicap.

Chris Timmons produced the filly wide to lead just inside the final furlong and she stayed on well to score by a length-and-a-quarter from Scalded Cat.

Jaamid kept on well to hold Volcan Magique by half a length in the first division of the Ladbrokes.com Handicap while Not To Know held the renewed challenge of Astalanda by a neck in the second division.
