The Martell Grand National looks set for its first maximum field for eight years after 52 horses were confirmed for Saturday's race today.
The Aintree line-up has fallen short of the safety limit of 40 every year since 1992, with only 27 going to post in 1996.
But a bumper turnout appears likely in five days time, as only 12 horse were taken out of the race today.
Most notable withdrawals were Coral Welsh National winner Edmond, whose trainer Henry Daly was hoping for softer going, and Betty's Boy, who was put down after an accident on the gallops last weekend.
The going on the Grand National course is officially good to soft, soft in places. But drying weather is expected from tomorrow afternoon.
Final declarations are made on Thursday, with the provision to accommodate up to four reserves.
Martell Grand National withdrawals: Blowing Wind, Edmond, Lanturn, Ashwell Boy, Betty's Boy, Profluent, Mister Creek, Classy Lad, Tennessee Twist, Jack Doyle, Casterbridge, Frazer Island (12).
