David Myerscough, a grandson of Vincent O'Brien, took the opener at the Curragh on a day when the legendary trainer is honoured in the Group 1 National Stakes. Irish Heartbeat proved a game winner of the Ladbrokes.com Autumn Festival Handicap under Pat Smullen.
The Celtic Swing gelding was prominent throughout and hit the lead over a furlong from home. Sioduil threw down a strong challenge in the final furlong but just failed to peg her rival back, going down by a short-head.
"He was knocking on the door and deserved it," said Myerscough.
"The ground was probably a bit softer than ideal. Hopefully it will dry out and we'll come back here for the Joe McGrath Handicap (September 27th).
"He was unlucky in the Scurry Handicap here on Derby day when he won on the far side.
"He was out in front on his own and idled. The cheekpieces seem to have done the job today."
Kevin Manning received a one-day ban after being found guilty of careless riding aboard the runner-up.
