Preview NAVAN 29TH APR

Navan stage an eight-race mixed programme on Sunday, with the first due off at 2.00.

After the National Hunt Festival during the week, the emphasis is more on quantity than quality but there nevertheless look to be a couple of decent wagers on the card.

Merchant's Friend appeals as the likely winner of the 2m4f novice handicap chase.

The improving six year-old handled heavy ground well when scoring in good style at Listowel last weekend, and appears to have sound prospects of following up.

Karsavina ran a fantastic race when third in the Listed Eyrefield Stakes last season, and looks the answer to the 1m2f fillies' race.

Rebelline, who finished second in the Leopardstown contest, franked the form when bolting up in the 1000 Guineas trial at Leopardstown and Aidan O'Brien's filly should prove too good for her rivals.

Noel Meade's Good Vintage is another to have had the form of his last outing boosted since and this consistent type can capture the 2m6f maiden hurdle.

The Lashkari gelding was runner-up to Alpha Blues at Fairyhouse back in February, and his conqueror that day was an impressive winner at the same venue during the week.

It will be a surprise if Good Vintage faces a rival of that calibre on this occasion, although Golfeur is worth watching with an eye to the future.
